200 brilliant young mind from all over the world competing for a goal: building development and peace through Sport
The Italian Society for International Organisation (SIOI – UN Association of Italy), and its Students’ Movement (MSOI-UNYA Italy), partnered with the U.S. Diplomatic Missions in Italy, is launching “ZEROHackathon2018”, the International Youth Competition of Ideas on Sport for Development and Peace.
Sport has the power to provide a universal framework for learning values, thus contributing to the development of soft skills needed for responsible citizenship. Moreover, Sport represents a unique tool for promoting international cooperation, social progress and peace. The United Nations envisages sport as an important and powerful tool with the potential to tackle challenges entailed in each of the 17 SDGs. The European Union recognizes that sport can contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, as well as its role in society, its economic dimension to good governance and sport diplomacy.
200 talented university and high school students from all over the world will convene in Rome, at CONI, SIOI and Farnesina, from 2nd to 4th May 2018, to take part in the second edition of the international youth contest where creativity, civic engagement and team working are the key elements to succeed.
Participants will be invited to develop innovative high-impact ideas and projects capable of providing achievable responses on the most critical challenges Sport faces in promoting international cooperation, integrity, social integration, economic progress and sustainable development.
Here are the numbers: 20 teams, 4 thematic areas, 20 among technical experts and methodological facilitators, 1 jury. The final projects can take any form, as long as they constitute innovative solutions to tackle the most pressing international issues related to Sport as a tool to promote Development and Peace. Only the best team will get to the top step of the podium and will receive amazing final prizes!
ZEROHackathon2018 represents an unprecedent opportunity to build and enhance students’ education and skills in a non-formal way.
The initiative has received the patronage of numerous Italian universities, and a special thanks to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research, the European Commission Representation to Italy and the Italian National Olympic Committee.
