High-level public event
Thinking beyond the crisis: Labour migration and mobility in the Euro-Mediterranean region

19 May 2017, Istituto Affari Internazionali, Rome

Labour migration and mobility are, and will continue to be, key dynamics in the Euro-Mediterranean region. This event will provide an opportunity for a variety of relevant actors (e.g. government officials, academia, international organizations, private sector) to offer their perspective thus creating a wide scope for debate.
The debate will be opened by a keynote speech by Franco Frattini, President of the Italian Society for International Organization (SIOI), former Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs, former Vice-President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security.
The main issue that will be discussed is the role of human mobility for development on both sides of the Mediterranean. More specifically, the focus will be: Europe with or without migration; socio-demographic change in the Euro-Mediterranean region; the political dynamics of migration and mobility; the contributions of migration and its wider social, economic and political effects.
This event is co-organised by the Migration Policy Centre (MPC) at the European University Institute(EUI) and the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI)
It was made possible through the support of the IOM Development Fund and the US State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration.
